Cultural Tour: Eagle hunting

This tour offers you the great opportunity to discover the magnificent land of celestial mountains, located in Central Asia. You will enjoy seeing our wild nature, untouched hidden in the mountains places, and unforgettable ancient sights! This tour includes visiting of the most famous eagle hunter and an eagle hunting show, also living with nomads in the mountains and visiting of the two biggest mountain lakes in Kyrgyzstan. You will be taken back to the time of nomadic life, their traditions, culture and food.


Tour summary:

Day 1: Bishkek - Chon Kemin

Your guide will pick you up at Manas International Airport and accompany you to Bishkek City (30 min. drive), where you will start the day with a breakfast. You will have some time to have a rest in a hotel after the flight and then we will drive to our amazing Chon Kemin valley. This place is famous for its beauty and hospitable people.  On our way, we will visit the Burana Tower (minaret from the 11th century) and an open air museum of Balbans (stone warriors). After visiting this ancient part of Silk Road you will have lunch in a traditional Kyrgyz family in a local village. Your dinner will be served at 7 p.m. in Chon Kemin.


Day 2: Chon Kemin - Karakol

The day starts with a breakfast at 8 o'clock. Afterwards, you will start your trip to Karakol city by car. First of all you will be transferred to the celestial Issyk-Kul Lake (200 km), the second largest alpine lake in the world (1608m.above sea level). The Lake is also called "the pearl of Central Asia". Thanks to the salty water, Issyk Kul Lake possesses curative qualities. On the way, we will make a short break to give you the opportunity to visit ancient stone inscriptions (dating back to 800 B.C.), including the local museum. Then we will continue our way to Karakol city along the northern shore of the sparkling pearl of Central Asia, which's beauty you will be able to enjoy during the day. National dinner will be at 8 p.m. Night in a guesthouse.


Day 3: Karakol - Djeti Oguz

You will be served breakfast at 8 o'clock. The entire morning is dedicated to a guided Karakol City Tour. The tour includes the visit of the Dungan mosque. One of its highlights is the fact that it is built in Chinese style without using a single metal nail. This will be followed by the visit of an old wooden Orthodox Church that is more than 100 years old. Afterwards we start our way to the impressive Jeti Oguz, the gorge of 7 red rocks (30km). Also you will see the Broken Heart Mountain there. This place will surprise you by its incredible beauty and you will spend this night in yurts - collapsible nomadic dwellings. They are made of felt and wood without using a single nail. Kyrgyz people use them for more than 2000 years! In this gorge you will meet real nomads that live here in summer time with their cattle!


Day 4: Djeti Oguz - Bokombaevo

Today we will drive along the southern show of the Issyk Kul Lake to the house of the most famous Eagle Hunter - Talgat. His father Saginbay was the most known hunter in Kyrgyzstan and his birds are winners of many competitions. There you will have a great chance to see the way eagles are trained and the owner will tell you many interesting information about this way of hunting. Kyrgyz people were nomads until the 20th century and that is why they could not produce any iron and to make guns. That is why the created they own way of hunting. After that we will drive together with the hunter and his birds to a gorge where they will show us the skills of hunting. As soon as you see the hunting we will drive to your house where you have a traditional lunch with a family of the hunter. After lunch you will go to the mountains and try to hunt by yourselves. Talgat will explain you all details of hunting that are traditional among the Asian people. In the past time eagles helped to all villages to survive. Drive back to our house. Overnight in a home stay.


Day 5: Bokombaevo - Beltam Yurt Camp

Today after breakfast we will drive to the mountains. There are a lot of places suitable for this kind of hunting. During your picnic you will enjoy the amazing views of our celestial mountains. In the afternoon we will drive to your yurt camp. Time to have a rest. Dinner and overnight in a yurt. Also today is possible to visit a specially organized event on the southern shore of Issyk Kul with eagle hunting show.


Day 6-7: Beltam Yurt Camp

These two days we will continue our hunting. We will see wonderful views of the Terskei Ala- Too mountain range: mountains with snowy peaks. These days we will spend at the same place to find out more about eagle hunting. We will invite Talgat to tell you more about eagle hunting and you will have time to ask him anything you want. Coming back to your camp where we will see the process of construction of a yurt. This traditional felt house for nomadic people is used in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Western China. It takes 3 hours to assemble a yurt and 2 hours to disassemble it. Free time for walking around the aria. Dinners and overnights in the yurt camp. You wil have a feeling as if you are in ancient time when Kyrgyz people ercted their yurts in hidden mountain places to have hunting there.


Day 8: Beltam - Kochkor

After breakfast we will start our way to Kochkor. The road will go along mountain gorges and you will have a great chance to enjoy their beauty! At the Kochkor village you will meet a Kyrgyz family. They have a nice small museum of applied art. This family will show you the way of how national woolen felt carpets are produced. You even can create your own carpet. You will have a traditional dinner with a local family, accompanied by a special national music show. Overnight in a guesthouse.


Day 9: Kochkor - Naryn 

At 8 o'clock is your breakfast. Then we will start our way to Naryn town through the impressive Tien Shan Mountains. This town is situated near the longest river of Kyrgyzstan - Naryn (600 km). The road will surprise you by variety of mountains and landscapes. We will have a picnic in a picturesque place to feel the wind of freedom. On the way we will see nomads that live in their collapsible dwellings yurts. They still keep all traditions and they are very hospitable. In Naryn town we will spend our night in a guesthouse.


Day 10: Naryn - Tash Rabat

In the morning you will be transferred to the Tash Rabat - Caravanserai on the Great Silk Road (Stone Castle from the 14th century). The building is a unique one. Tash Rabat is located at the very heart of Tian Shan Mountains. And it has no analogue in the whole world, because it was made of stones and furthermore it is hidden in the mountains at a height 3200 m above sea level. In total there are 31 rooms in the castle. The thickness of walls is 1 m. There are also underground prison cells for ancient thieves. Traditional dinner will be served at 7 p.m. You will spend the night in yurts near by the Tash Rabat caravanserai.


Day 11: Tash Rabat

This day we will spend near the Tash Rabat where nomads live. After breakfast you will have a chance to erect a yurt on your own! We will organize it for you and you will participate as if you are real nomads. It takes about 1 hour to erect or to collapse a yurt and about 3 horses to transfer them from one place to another! That is why they were so comfortable for nomads. After lunch you will hike nearby and in the evening you will see a traditional killing of a sheep and making national food. It is very interesting because according to Kyrgyz traditions the head of a sheep will be given to the most respectful person and he will have to give all parts of the head to other people - and every part of the head has its own meaning that you will find out soon!


Day 12: Tash Rabat - Son Kul lake

After breakfast we start our drive to the second largest lake in Kyrgyzstan Son Kul Lake. Lunch will be taken on the way. Son Kul Lake is surrounded by mountains and it is the highest alpine lake in Kyrgyzstan, situated at an altitude of 3013 meters above sea level. Kyrgyz nomads started to come to this wonderful area with their families for rest and relaxation. Herders of the Naryn region come to the lake to use it as a pastureland. After our arrival, you will be free to explore and enjoy the virgin nature of the lake and its surroundings. Dinner and overnight in nomadic collapsible dwellings - yurts.


Day 13: Son Kul lake

At 9 am is your breakfast. Free time at Son Kul Lake, where you will have the opportunity to explore its nature on your own. You can ride along the lake on a horse, or just relaxing in the atmosphere of the wild, but calm nature. Lunch will be served at 2 pm. Then you will see also ancient petrogliphs that were depicted there with a view on the lake more than 2000 years ago. Son Kul is a great chance to get acquainted with nomadic culture. National dinner will be served in original nomadic houses - yurts. You will spend the night in yurts as nomads do. It is a great chance to feel nomadic life!


Day 14: Son Kul lake

Today you will participate together with nomads in milking cows and mares. Afterwards they will show you the way of kumis producing. Kumis is a national Kyrgyz drink that is made of fermented mare's milk... Marco Polo called it nomadic vine. It has very unusual taste and smell but it has good qualities for health and in Soviet time we even had special resort where people drink it all days long. Also youwill participate in nomadic cheese making - kurts. After this you can go with nomads to take cattle to the mountains. In the afternoon you will see national horse games! It is the most famous activity in Kyrgyzstan and our games are very interesting. You will see the main horse games that you will like for sure! Son Kul lake is so far from the civilization and that is why you will feel as if you are 1000 years ago!


Day 15: Son Kul - Suusamir

After breakfast you will be transferred to Suusamir. On the way, you will see mountains in different shapes. You will be carried away by the amazing scenery offered through views the untouched nature. The road will go along mountain gorges and unpaved roads. These places are famous for their amazing nature where you can enjoy the incredible views all way long. Also it is possible to meet real nomads there. Night in yurts.


Day 16: Suusamir - Bishkek:                                                                       

You will have breakfast at 8 o'clock. Then we start our trip back to Bishkek city (the capital of Kyrgyzstan). The road will surprise you by the great variety of mountains and landscapes! In Bishkek you will have time to go for a walk around the city and to buy souvenirs.  At 7 pm the dinner is served.


Day 17: Bishkek city tour

After you breakfast you will have a city tour. Our guide will tell you about the history of the city and you will visit the central Ala-Too Square, Duboviy Park (Oak Park), Pobeda Square (Victory Square), the History Museum, National philharmonic, Oriental Bazaar, Art Gallery and many others places of interest. Also we will organize specially for you a meeting with a Kyrgyz historian and you will be able to find out some more unbelievable information about nomads! At 7 pm a farewell dinner is served. 


Day 18: Flight home

Early in the morning you will be transferred to the airport.
